Emerging Innovation in Portable, User Friendly Bridging

January 17, 2019

On 17 January 2019, the UK government’s Defence and Security Accelerator published an official case study on EasiBridge — one of the most significant formal endorsements the Devon-based innovator had received to that point. Titled “Emerging innovation in portable, user friendly bridging technique,” the piece confirmed DASA’s support for EasiBridge in the experimental development of new gap crossing, force protection, and difficult access capabilities.

The official summary left no room for ambiguity: EasiBridge offers a truly man-portable, long-span rescue/assault bridge — 85% lighter, 80% more compact, and 20 times cheaper than incumbent Infantry Assault Bridges — using short-section ladders as a common building block for a huge range of mobility, gap crossing and force protection challenges.

On the same day, DASA published a second article — “Suppliers demonstrate their innovations to potential investors” — confirming that Bright Structures had been selected as one of just seven DASA-funded companies invited to pitch live to potential investors at a formal DASA showcase event. EasiBridge appeared under its full project title: “Next Generation Troop Protection, Access and Mobility Systems.” The other six companies represented AI, machine learning, aviation security, and crowd monitoring technologies — placing EasiBridge in elite company.

This double publication in January 2019 marked the moment EasiBridge graduated from a funded project to a government-endorsed defence innovation ready for wider investment and adoption. Four months later, the first military order from the Royal Engineers followed.
